The Swedish Prime Minister has announced that Sweden will open an embassy in Tunisia.
Sweden and Tunisia share common challenges, such as regional security policy issues and migration. The presence of an embassy will facilitate the bilateral cooperation regarding these issues.
However, the purpose is also to strengthen the promotion of trade. Swedish presence in Tunisia has been called for by the Swedish business sector in order to facilitate trade and investment. Swedish companies currently employ 5000 people in Tunisia and as the Tunisian market stabilizes after the Jasmine Revolution in 2011, there is potential for increased Swedish exports. Furthermore, there is significant interest in Swedish solutions and social models in Tunisia.
